Prof João Coutinho from the University of Aveiro (UAv) presented the ILIMITED project research study on solvent screening for methanol production at COIL10 – 10th Congress on Ionic Liquids in Perth, Western Australia.
Prof Coutinho provided an overview of the importance of screening tools for selecting the best candidates and explained how quantum chemistry and machine learning can be utilised. He discussed the most promising families and molecular structures among the candidates that demonstrated the best performance.

The COIL10 congress was organised by the University of Western Australia to showcase the latest developments in ionic liquids and related fields. The scientific programme covered topics from ionic liquid fundamentals to applications, including energy storage, sustainable processing, materials development, separations, catalysis, and biomedical technologies.
