The University of Aveiro (UAv), a key partner in the ILIMITED project, actively contributed to the 23rd European Conference on Thermophysical Properties (ECTP 2026), held from 21–24 June 2026 in Gouvieux, France. ECTP is a major international forum that brings together researchers working on the measurement, modelling and application of thermophysical properties of materials, with strong relevance for energy, process engineering and advanced materials development. At the event, UAv played a visible scientific role not only through presentations, but also through active leadership within the conference programme. Notably, Prof. J. Coutinho chaired the session “Thermophysical Properties: Complex Liquids (I)”. Within this session, M. Alcantara delivered a lecture titled: “Chemical stability of ionic liquids for high temperature MeOH synthesis at 513 K”. 

In addition, UAv presented two complementary posters: [1] COSMO based machine learning for predicting long-term thermal stability of ionic liquids and [2] Experimental long-term thermal stability of ionic liquids with minimum TGA experiments

Building on this strong international presence, UAv will continue to present ILIMITED research topics at upcoming specialised events in the field of ionic liquids. 

At IMIL 2026 – Iberoamerican Meeting on Ionic Liquids (6–10 July 2026, Brazil), a key platform for global collaboration on the synthesis, characterisation and applications of ionic liquids, M. Alcantara will present a study on reducing the number of TGA measurements needed to assess the long-term thermal stability of highly stable ILs. While conventional methods in the literature require from three to seven measurements, we can obtain the same or better results using only two, through precise selection of the experimental temperature and the application of a more accurate kinetic model.

At EUCHEMSIL 2026 – EuChemS Conference on Molten Salts and Ionic Liquids (26–31 July 2026, Cambridge, UK), an event focusing on energy, catalysis, materials and circular economy applications of liquid salts and ionic liquids, overall advances will be presented, mostly centred on the use of ML and COSMO to screen millions of solvents and select the most suitable ones.
