Pillars

The UPSTREAM project works through four main pillars:

  • MONITORING, including analysis of L and P hotspots and of MP characteristics and distribution;
  • PREVENTION through the production of bio-based and biodegradable polymers and plastics that stop the formation of MP through a range of applications;
  • ELIMINATION all along the water system – before, within, and after WWTPs; and
  • VALORISATION of recovered L, P, and MP, creating sustainable business models for elimination technologies.
